Veterans on the run!

May 15, 2012

London coppers are targeting veterans – but in the best possible way!

A run organised by Metropolitan Police Sergeant Dave Johns and led by Waltham Forest Safer Transport Team in May raised more than £1,500 for Veterans Aid and is to be followed by an even more adventurous fund-raiser in November.

On 6th May officers ran the length of the Borough to raise the cash, completing an 8.2 mile course from Chingford to Leyton.
Javelin Gold Medalist (1984 Los Angeles Olympics) Tessa Sanderson made a short speech to launch the event and footballer Teddy Sheringham ran with the 15-man/woman police team. The event was such a success that the team came up with an even more ambitious idea to raise money and bring attention to Veterans Aid.

On Sunday 6th November 2011 a team of 10 police officers and 10 soldiers will pull a fully laden Routemaster bus for one mile through Westminster.

Sergeant Johns said “We hope to fill the bus with VIPs and celebrities. The idea is in its infancy but is quickly gaining momentum   . . . so watch this space.”
