The work of former soldier Michael Crossan, a graduate of VA’s New Belvedere House and City Lit, will be on display at two London Galleries this summer. Michael’s extraordinary story featured in The Independent and Evening Standard’s Homeless Veterans campaign (see HERE) after he donated an iconic artwork to its auction.
He said, “After the success of the Independent online auction, which raised £1.25m for Veterans Aid & ABF/The Soldiers Charity, I found that the first year of my MA in Fine Art just flew. Looking back, I think the interest in my work generated by the auction, and the interview I subsequently did about it, boosted my confidence. It gave me an incentive; a bit more belief in myself and my art and that little extra push to go further.
“The coming year will be a very important and exciting one for me – and also for Veterans Aid, whose support I will never forget. Nor will I forget the ‘Art of Survival’ exhibition in December 2012 that put me on the road I am now travelling.”
APRIL
Wild@Art, is an exciting exhibition of contemporary artists whose work is as diverse as their backgrounds. Hailing from Scotland, Turkey – and all points between – they studied at City Lit College where friendships and an enduring commitment to art developed. The eclectic group includes full-time students, GPs, company directors and psychotherapists. The exhibition features a range of styles including 2D and 3D media.
Wild@Art can be seen at The Metamorphose Gallery, Islington Arts Factory, 2 Parkhurst Road, Holloway, London N7 0SF. It is open to the public from April 18th-24th.
JUNE
Crossan’s work is on display again in June at The Menier Gallery , near London Bridge. It will feature in SHIFT – so called after the word at the centre of the exhibition, featuring the work of a group of international artists.
“SHIFT” is an ancient word with many meanings reflecting the shifting, diverse London that shaped the artists collaborating in the show. It represent a rich area of investigation for modern day London culture.”
