A freelance journalist working for The Polish Daily, Piotr Gulbicki, approached Veterans Aid to learn more about the charity’s work. Polish Daily is the oldest newspaper for Polish immigrants in Europe; it was established in 1940 in London and has been published ever since. In 1943 The Polish Daily merged with Soldiers Daily, the newspaper of the I Polish Corps, formed by General Wladyslaw Sikorski. Consequently the newspaper still puts a strong emphasis on military related stories.
Piotr Gulbicki said, “I was fascinated by the story of Veterans Aid, which seems to be Britain’s best kept secret. Being a historian I wanted to learn more about it and write a feature for the oldest and most important Polonia newspaper published in the UK.”
