CEO Dr Hugh Milroy, in an interview with Platform505.com to mark Remembrance Day this weekend, talks about Veterans Aid.
“Veterans Aid is about giving people dignity” he explains.
“Like Churchill, our mantra is ‘Action this day’ – providing immediate help; what’s needed, when it’s needed.”
The interviewer explains that “heading a team of such committed people, based on Buckingham Palace Road in London, Hugh has been involved with homeless Veterans for more than 15 years and this has allowed him to create the unique VA ethos which is best described as ‘hand up, not hand out’.
The public mustn’t “be fooled that it is just older ex-squaddies that go off the rails. Those who VA have helped include young men who’ve only recently left the military, even a commanding officer who through a series of misfortunes found himself at VA, as well as women”.
The article details 3 recent – and poignant – case studies of Veterans who have been helped.
