Romilly Witts will be running the London Marathon for Veterans Aid on Sunday, 24th April 2016.

Milly, an outdoor enthusiast, who has already tackled The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge and kite surfing (see pictures), was encouraged to take part in the event by the charity’s Head of Addiction Services.

She said, “I was inspired by my wonderful friend Phil Rogers, who works for Veterans Aid. I believe the work of this charity, supporting ex-serviceman and women, is truly transformational. They deal mainly with the consequences of life in 21st Century Britain; poverty, unemployment, social isolation, relationship breakdown, mental health problems, drug and alcohol abuse.

“I always find it emotional when people do it in memory of their friends and relatives, but I wanted to take part to raise money for people who are still out there and who, because of some misfortune, are living on the streets, often with drug and alcohol abuse issues.”

Romilly, who was born in Rutland and moved to London 9 years ago, cheers the marathon runners every year but this will be the first time she has taken part.

You can support veterans in crisis by making a donation to Romilly’s JustGiving page.
