On 26th January 2014 competitors from around the country will push themselves to the limits to take part in the annual Tough Guy Assault which takes place in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire.
Among them will be Veterans Aid supporter William Foulkes who decided to face mud, barbed-wire fences and obstacle running to raise money for the charity.
Will said, “I’m doing this for Veterans Aid because I think it is an absolutely superb charity. Unlike the big military charities, Veterans Aid gets very little publicity. Its main purpose is to be, “the accident and emergency unit of the UK Veterans’ world” and its primary job is dealing with ex-Servicemen and women who become homeless. VA provides over 20,000 nights of accommodation a year, without fuss and helps people rebuild their lives.”
The Tough Guy Assault is perceived as one of the toughest survival contests in the country and it requires a lot of courage and preparation to embrace it. The eight-mile course features a cross-country run through mud and numerous obstacles including fire pits, flooded tunnels and freezing water pools.
Will said, ‘This is a pretty brutal endurance and stamina test which involves icy water, barbed-wire, electric shocks, fire and quite often, hypothermia. I strongly believe Veterans Aid is a very worthy cause and I hope I can bring more peoples’ attention to it.”
“Veterans Aid is doing all they can to get these guys back on their feet, fed, clothed, accommodated and stabilised at their hostel and treated for whatever is wrong with them. Some of them are slightly depressed, others are seriously ill. VA needs the funds to help them. This is where I come in. If you feel you could sponsor me, I would be really grateful.
