Former RAF engineering officer Chris Weston, used a 10-mile cross-country training march at Colchester Garrison to raise funds for Veterans Aid. Money is still coming in but he’s already reached £750.
Chris, who served for 13 years, was based at RAF Brize Norton, Lossiemouth, Marham and in staff roles in Wyton. He was medically discharged after a motorbike accident in 1994.
He said, “I decided to train for the Paras’ 10 during a period of long-term sick leave last year. I have friends who have served with the Airborne Forces and have always been impressed with the training and selection process. It was very challenging and lots of fun; great getting muddy again.”
The event, Paras’ 10 TAB (*TAB – Tactical Advance to Battle) is claimed to be one of the hardest Paras tests available to the public. The 10 mile route, set in the local training area in Colchester Garrison, involved some obstacles and stream crossing. In its third year the event showcased 16 Air Assault Brigade.
Chris said, “I must thank one of my ex-RAF friends, Jon Stevens, who did the walking in Wales with me and helped me with this event, driving me there and helping with all the admin.”
