Students at King’s College London were treated to an inside track view of life after the Armed Forces when CEO of Veterans Aid Dr Hugh Milroy gave his annual lecture.

Programme leader Professor Edgar Jones introduced Dr Milroy to MSc War & Psychiatry students at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, Denmark Hill Campus, where he spoke about VA’s work and what it means to be a veteran in 21st Century Britain.

The 83-year-old charity, which operates through the UK and internationally, has an unparalleled success rate in turning round the lives of veterans in crisis and a recent report by the Centre for Social Justice recommended the adoption of VA’s model to  “other charities engaged in all aspects of transition experience”.

Dr Milroy, a former RAF officer and Senior Visiting Fellow at King’s College, said afterwards, “It’s always a pleasure to meet students and individuals with an interest in veterans affairs  – here at the university or at our Head Office in Victoria. Myths abound and it’s good to have an opportunity to put things into perspective.”
