A – Z Fundraising ideas

Afternoon tea or coffee morning – these are easy to host and ideal for small groups, friends and family.

Bake sale – also suitable for groups, children, friends and family.

Bingo – can be adapted to any age group or numbers.

Bike ride – a short, gentle ride or a punishing a personal challenge.

Birthday fundraisingmake your birthday count by linking it to a cause you care about.

Concert – a formal event with skilled musicians or  a fun event for  friends and family

Dress-up day – raise a smile as well as funds . . .  but be sure to get permission first if your workplace is involved!

Dinner party – something sophisticated for serious foodies or a pot-luck for friends?

Expedition – you don’t have to cross a frozen lake on a solo expedition, but the quirkier the challenge, the more likely it is to attract attention.

Easter Egg hunt – great for children but can involve friends and family in painting and hiding eggs.

Fancy dress – pick a theme, issue a challenge, organise voting. Dressing up can involve children and adults.

Games – any sporting or competitive activity can be turned into a fundraiser, from the seriously challenging to the fun and frivolous.

Hike – anything from a walk in the park to a jungle or mountain trek.

Kayak – our Tweed Challenge duo had never paddled a kayak before undertaking  their 97-mile personal fundraiser

Knit & Craft – knit, pearl, crochet or craft. If you have a skill or a talent  consider how you could use it to raise funds.

Matched Giving – whether you’re raising money in the office or outside work, ask your employer about matched giving. Lots of our fundraisers have the amount they’ve raised doubled by their employer so don’t be afraid to ask. Many are delighted to support good causes.

Movie night – suitable for diverse groups and ages.

Pancake event – combine a culinary challenge with manual dexterity in a Shrove Tuesday event that could appeal to all ages.

Quiz night – virtually or in a pub, café or public venue. Turn a social event into a fundraiser and involve work colleagues, friends and family. Perhaps give it a military theme to resonate with the cause you are supporting.

Run –  alone or by taking part in race. Consider the London or Boston Marathons, either as a solo competitor or part of a team.

Swim – it doesn’t have to be the English Channel! Lengths in your local pool will work just as well.

Triathlon – challenge yourself to take part in an organised triathlon and ask for sponsorship from colleagues, family and friends. Make it a personal challenge or get a group together and motivate one another.

Walk Captain Tom Moore’s target was to walk 100 lengths of his garden and raise £1000, but on the morning of his 100th birthday he’d passed the  £30m mark. Choose something that works for you and adapt it to your circumstances.
