Veterans Aid
is once again to benefit from the generosity of transatlantic comic book superstars Geoff Johns and Gary Franks.
Following the launch of their new creator-owned co-operative media company – Ghost Machine – the duo who created Junkyard Joe announced that they wanted proceeds of a special Junkyard Joe Veteran’s Day T-shirt to go towards their chosen charities; Veterans Aid in the UK and the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans in the USA.
The T-shirts can be purchased in male and female sizes and shipped worldwide (See link: HERE )
Last year a special – and now highly collectable – first edition of Junkyard Joe was dedicated to veterans, including British illustrator Geoff’s grandfather and American-Lebanese Gary’s grandparents, who all served in WWII. Proceeds of that sale were earmarked to support the charities with a further $2 donation from Geoff’s company, Mad Ghost.
Ghost Machine – the ground-breaking creator collective of which Geoff and Gary are now part – is led by prolific writers and artists whose bestselling works include Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, The Flash, The Ultimates, Black Lightning and Green Arrow.
CEO of Veterans Aid Dr Hugh Milroy said: “We were excited when we learned about the new company and touched beyond measure that Geoff and Gary had, once again, chosen to support our work with veterans in crisis. Junkyard Joe, the robot character they created, and his relationship with Muddy, the disillusioned veteran, touches on so many aspects of war, camaraderie, abandonment, and the renewal of hope that all who have served can relate to him.”
Ghost Machine’s titles will be published through the original champion of creator-owned comics – Image Comics – the industry’s third largest comic book publisher behind Marvel and DC, which launched in 1992 when seven of the top comic book creators left Marvel Comics to own their own work and ideas. Now, Ghost Machine drives the industry norms and opportunities even further by having top talent collaborate and build out shared universes that they entirely control together. If Image Comics pushed the original boundaries, Ghost Machine is breaking barriers and creating a new frontier for creators.
