Amy Foster, Corporal Weapons Engineer in the RAF, is deploying to Bastion at the start of December for four months and decided to raise funds for Veterans Aid. She has set herself a challenge to cycle the distance home from Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, to RAF Brize Norton, Oxfordshire – a total of 3500 miles in 120 days! Amy will have to cycle 30 miles per day on a static bike after her 12-hour shift.
Amy said, “As I’m away over the festive period and will be missing my husband and family so much, I wanted something challenging to keep myself focused and to have a specific goal to aim for whilst also doing some good. I had been serving for 5 years before I had even heard of Veterans Aid. The reason I chose this amazing charity was simple for me; no veteran should ever be homeless, ever! I still remember the day when I first heard of VA from a colleague, I was so shocked that this could happen to any ex-serviceman or woman so I had to do something to help.
“To think that someone who had been prepared to make sacrifices of varying degrees, and possibly the ultimate sacrifice, could be cold, alone and scared on the streets is utterly unacceptable to me. This is just a small thing I can do to hopefully make a contribution to the great work that Veterans Aid do.
