A Greenwich Hospital Grant of £30,000 has been awarded to Veterans Aid through The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).
It will be used to support VA’s work among ex-servicemen and women in crisis, in particular those who served in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.
CEO of Veteran Aid Dr Hugh Milroy said, “While most service personnel make a seamless transition to civilian life, a few do not. Others experience hardship much later in life. Veterans Aid has been there to give them a ‘hand up’ since 1932, dealing with individuals in all kinds of crisis, regardless of age or length or service.
“The solutions we broker are as unique as the individuals who seek our help, but we couldn’t operate without the support of donors, supporters and other members of the military family. This grant from Greenwich Hospital (which has been supporting the RN since 1694) will help us save, and change, lives. We are deeply grateful.”
John Gamp, Charity Director of Greenwich Hospital, said “Veterans Aid are in the front line of alleviating homelessness and distress and rebuilding lives for former servicemen, and we are delighted and proud to be able, through VA and our RNRMC partners, to support veterans of the Naval Service who have fallen into difficult circumstances”.

In recent years VA has offered shelter and support to many maritime veterans including a homeless submariner stranded in Italy and a Royal Navy veteran grappling with long-term alcohol problems. Both spent time in the charity’s New Belvedere House Hostel until they were well and stable enough to sustain rewarding, independent lives.
New Belvedere House (pictured left) provides single room accommodation for 55 ex-servicemen. This flagship facility is presently undergoing an extensive extension and refurbishment. For more information about how to support this project click HERE.
Greenwich Hospital is a unique Royal Naval Crown Charity founded in 1694.
