The charity Never Such Innocence held a dinner commemorating men and women of the Great War at Australia House on the 14th and 15th May 2014 as part of a series of Remembrance events.
Effectively a journey through the Great War the evening productions blended poetry, prose and music. John Julius Norwich was the narrator and Nick Hutchison the director on both evenings and an illustrious cast of actors brought the productions to life.Proceeds generated from the evening will be donated to five military charities: Veterans Aid, Combat Stress, Give Us Time, Legacy and Step Short.
CEO of Veterans Aid, Dr Hugh Milroy, who attended the second of the two evening events, said, “This was a truly splendid and moving evening and I feel extremely honoured that Veterans Aid was chosen as one of the charities. The cast gave a terrific performance and there were a couple of moments, which were truly spellbinding.
“Our thanks go to all involved especially Lady Lucy French, Edward Wild and the Australian High Commissioner and staff.”
Never Such Innocence is a unique and important project fitting into the wider series of 2014-18 Centenary activities. The intention is to leave an educational legacy through a national children’s poetry and art competition and raise money for five Military charities each year.
The Australian High Commission had generously agreed to host the event at the Australia House on the Strand.
