The Services Sound and Vision Corporation (SSVC) runs the BFBS Big Salute to raise funds for five Forces charities. One of them is Veterans Aid.
Kickstarting the Breakfast Show on the last day of the Big Salute auction were former soldiers Peter Cowling and Jason Sullivan. Both men talked about the support they had received from the charity when they were in crisis. With very different experiences of military life, (former Green Howard, Peter is 56 and former infantryman with 1 Royal Anglians, Jason is 24) they told listeners how they had each briefly ended up homeless and how quickly they had been helped by VA.
Speaking on behalf of the charity Media Manager Glyn Strong said, “VA has been operating for nearly 82 years, helping people of all ages, regardless of when or where they served, or for how long. There is no ‘one size fits all’ at VA because we recognise that everyone has different needs. The help we provide reflects that.
“We are delighted to be supported by BFBS and every penny that we receive from The Big Salute is spent on the veterans who seek our help.”
