Following the U-turn by the UK Border Agency on the threatened deportation of Commonwealth and foreign soldiers, Veterans Aid CEO Dr Hugh Milroy was quoted in a Private Eye interview.
“I really applaud this move – it’s a major step forward, (however) there are legacy issues here – for instance, some charities have run up debts fighting their cases. There’s still a lot of work to do”.
The U-turn occurred after the Border Agency had previously told soldiers with almost spotless records to leave the country.
Veterans Aid fought a fierce campaign, backed by serving forces members, the public and many well-known figures.
