It is with deep sadness that Veterans Aid reflects on the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh.
The Duke was a true friend of the charity and, before his retirement from public engagements in May 2017, supported it in a number of ways.
CEO of Veterans Aid Dr Hugh Milroy said:
“His Royal Highness honoured us with his presence at The Guards Chapel where we held Christmas Carol concerts and at our residential facility New Belvedere House. His informality, humour and genuine interest in the veterans whom he met there was inspirational.”
In 2016 The Duke became the first official visitor to the newly transformed Old Rectory, the first phase of the £8.4m refurbishment project that was to transform New Belvedere House into the flagship facility that it is today. Six months later he returned to catch up with staff and residents who had reaped the benefits of the on-going refurbishment project and learn about its progress.
